GI-ACE ‘From Secrecy to Scrutiny: A New Map of Illicit Global Financial Networks’

From Secrecy to Scrutiny: A New Map of Illicit Global Financial Networks

Location: RUSI, 61 Whitehall, London

Confirmed Speakers: Presentation by Dr Daniel Haberly Followed by a panel discussion chaired by Prof Paul Heywood, Programme Director GI ACE

Event Overview: Daniel Haberly’s research From Secrecy to Scrutiny: A New Map of Illicit Global Financial Networks has been conducted under the FCDO's Anti-Corruption Evidence (ACE) programme. Dr Haberly's work sheds new light on which global financial centres are used for illicit financial flows, and how this has evolved since 1990 in the face of a changing regulatory and policy environment. His previous work in this field analysing the Panama and Paradise Papers has been expended to include data on sanctioned entity networks and the location of financial networks used to disguise funds that have come to light via US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) cases. The presentation of the research will be followed by a panel of discussants exploring the implications for policy in the UK and beyond.
