SOC ACE attended this year’s International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC2024) in Vilnius, Lithuania, between 18 and 21 June. SOC ACE Director, Prof Heather Marquette and Tom Keatinge, RUSI’s Director of The Centre for Finance and Security, participated in the RUSI-coordinated workshop titled, Combatting Modern Kleptocracy: Assessing the Impact of Two Tears of Sanctions on Russia’ . Chaired by Kinga Redlowska (RUSI), and joined by Bridget Millman (NED) and Juhani Grossmann (Basel Institute for Governance), the discussion draws on RUSI research, including that funded by SOC ACE, assessing the tools used to address kleptocracy before and after Russia’s full invasion of Ukraine. Discussants zoom in on how the advances made since February 2022 can be secured and how efforts can ensure that new legislation, policies and operations can be effectively deployed to achieve the necessary step change for combatting kleptocracy.
