40th Cambridge Symposium, Plenary Workshop 41: Exploring mechanisms for the recovery of the proceeds of kleptocracy

The Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime

Location: Jesus College, University of Cambridge, UK, 8 September 2023

Chair: Ms Maria Nizzero, Research Fellow, Centre for Financial Crime and Security Studies, Royal United Services Institute, (RUSI), UK

Speakers: Ms Sarah Zelkha, International and Operational Asset Recovery Policy, Home Office, UK; Ms Helen Taylor, Senior Legal Researcher, Spotlight on Corruption, UK; Ms Gretta Fenner, Managing Director, Basel Institute of Governance, Switzerland.

Seminar Overview: The Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime first convened as a result of widespread concern that both the development and the integrity of the global financial system were at risk from those who engage in economically motivated crime, and those who would assist them. It has since grown into a unique international platform that makes a real difference to the control of economically relevant crime and misconduct across the world. As part of the symposium this plenary, will discuss alternative asset recovery mechanisms that can help address the immediate policy goal surrounding Russian-linked sanctioned assets and contribute to strengthening the broader asset recovery framework.
