SOC ACE takes part in roundtable on rethinking stabilisation and responding to transnational threats at BISA Conference 2024

SOC ACE researchers are pleased to be leading discussions in a roundtable on ‘Rethinking stabilisation and responding to transnational threats’ at the BISA 2024 Conference ‘Whose International Studies?’

The roundtable, will be chaired by SOC ACE Director Professor Heather Marquette, and will bring together policy, practice, and research experts to discuss evolving transnational threats in stabilisation efforts.

This event, reflects on the Western withdrawal from Afghanistan and the ongoing war in Ukraine - addressing the shifting focus from traditional concerns of insurgency, terrorism, and violent extremism to new challenges such as illicit finance, corruption, organised crime, and disinformation.

Participants will examine how these threats impact stability, noting the increased geopolitical competition and the readiness of some global powers to use military force for political gains. The roundtable aims to better understand how addressing a broader range of transnational threats could contribute to reducing violence and foster peaceful political solutions in increasingly volatile contexts.

The roundtable witll take place on Friday, 7 June 2024 at 13:45PM at the HyattHotel/Centenary Square, Birmingham.
